L’OREAL Paris – Youth Code Serum Corrector Review

It was recommended that I use this product for at least 8 weeks to see a difference in my sun spots. I have been using this product pretty consistently twice a day with some missed days in between. Once in the morning before I leave and once at night before bed.

My face [skin] type:  dry and sensitive, a few sunspots around the cheekbone area

Product: L’OREAL Paris Youth Code Serum Corrector (30ml/1.0 fl. oz)

Price: $24.99 (30ml/1.0 fl. oz)

My thoughts

According to the L’Oreal Paris website, this Youth Code serum is meant to correct dark spots and illuminate the skin/even out skin tone. Their studies show that a large portion of the females who use this product saw results, such as fewer dark spots in 8 weeks time.

I have been using this product for about 4 months now (~16 weeks). Twice a day, once in the morning and once before bed. The instructions say to use it before the application of moisturiser, which I followed. I’m not sure if it’s the moisturiser I’m using (I’ve tried using 2 different kinds of drugstore moisturisers), but it seems to react with this product. In the beginning, when I first used this product, it just seemed ineffective, but it did say 8 weeks, so I figured I was just impatient to see results. After 8 weeks time, I still hadn’t seen much of a difference in my sun spots! Gradually, I started realizing that I would often get a kind of light rash near my cheekbones. I only apply the serum around my cheekbones (because that’s where my sun spots are located), as well as moisturiser (but this goes all over my face and neck). It would take a couple of days of me not using any the serum for the rash to go away. Maybe the days that I didn’t use the serum rendered it useless despite 4 months of usage?

Yes, there are days where I experiment and didn’t use any moisturiser at all along with the serum. I would get rashes less often, but light rashes still appeared. It wasn’t super noticeable unless you touched it or went right up to my face!

So as you can tell, I didn’t have the best experience with this product as I found that it didn’t have much effect on correcting my sun spots. I believe the combination of this serum and moisturiser caused my sensitive skin to react as well.

Would I recommend this product? No. If you have sensitive, dry skin, I wouldn’t recommend this product. This product doesn’t act as a moisturiser so you need to use moisturiser in combination with this serum for daily use and it doesn’t seem to be the best combo out there! Maybe it’s just my skin, but hopefully this doesn’t happen to anyone else!

Christmas Gifts for Her

Now that it’s closer to Christmas, men all around must be panicking on what to pick out for the women in their life! That’s where I come in! Here is a nice handy list of gift ideas for the lovely ladies out there!

1) Beauty Box Subscription

Yes, I may be a tad biased, but this serves to be kind of like 4-12 mini gifts if you get an annual subscription! There are so many beauty boxes out there! Ipsy, Topbox, Luxebox, etc etc!

2) Macaron

These are elegant desserts that come in various colours. They get packaged very nicely and definitely makes a better gift than chocolates!

3) Hair straightener or Curl iron

I feel like a straightener is a must in every female’s household. You can use it to straighten hair, curl hair, and even iron out small wrinkles on clothes!

4) Photo album

This is more for the close females in your life. Buy a photo album and fill it with pictures of happy moments you guys had together! This is a great gift for mothers and girlfriends. Lets them know you care! If you don’t have enough pictures, fill it with small things that had meaning, such as first movie date tickets, first parking ticket you got while she was there or some other meaningful flat items! Maybe throw in a single rose/favourite flower as well!

5) Dress

This is definitely a tricky item. My general rule of thumb is to probably never buy a female clothing unless you know their size 100%! And even then, it could come off as offensive because you didn’t choose a smaller size! But I like the idea of a dress especially if it’s coupled with a dinner that they’re able to wear the dress to. Remember, it has to be a dress that fits perfectly! Maybe a dress they tried on before but didn’t buy because they didn’t need the dress. Something along those lines! Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

6) Clutch/Wristlet

These are those tiny bags women like to carry their essentials in! Just big enough to hold their phone, a few cards, and some cash!

7) Spa Package (Mani/Pedi/Massage/etc)

Lots of spas offer Holiday packages that include various treatments! You can let them know they deserve to spoil themselves once in a while!

8) Jewelry Box/Music Box

Both these boxes carry/organize jewelry.

9) Premade gift baskets/packages (Make-up, lotion, toiletries, perfume, chocolate, etc)

If it’s a female who you have absolutely no idea what to get them, premade gift packages will save you. They cover all grounds!

10) Jewelry (Necklace, bracelet, earrings, etc)

Last, but not least, jewelry! This gift is literally the default gift you can give any female of any age! Which jewelry you give could indicate more intimacy. For example, a necklace would be more likely fit for a girlfriend whereas a bracelet would do for a female cousin or sibling. If you’ve already given the girlfriend a necklace, the braclet/earring/etc would also work as a gift!

As I was writing this list up, I realized, females are just as hard to shop for as guys! Hope you enjoyed!

Can I just say, GORGEOUS. THIS is a bag I would love to carry with me on a night out! Only, this time I kind of wished there was a wristlet portion to it! Nonetheless, I absolutely love love this bag. It has a red interior as well. My favourite combination of colours, black and red (yes, I am aware that black isn’t technically a colour!)!!

Estimated Value of this Month’s Bag: $59.57

Thoughts for this month’s ipsy bag

This month, ipsy has outdone themselves! It was truly a spectacular Christmas gift! As we all know, I’m not a fan of sparkles, but I will make an exception for the Be a Bombshell: The One Stick in FlusteredThis item is truly multi-purpose! I love how you can use it as a blush and control the pinkness of it! Looks great on lips as well! Only downside is that it contains parabens. Instead of giving away the pop beauty: Bright Up Your Life Eye Shadow Trio in Naturally Bare, I think this time round I am going to try this one on! I generally steer clear of sparkly eye shadows, but these natural colours make me want to try them on at the very least! The NYX Extra Creamy Round Lipstick in HERMES/LSS544 is a definitely love for this month’s ipsy bag! NYX has amazing prices for great quality lipstick. It applies so smoothly and creamy! I could probably use a different colour for my skin tone though! I have received once a gain, a nail polish sample! I’m beginning to think I can open my own nail salon at this rate! Joking! The NICKA K New York Nail Polish in Classic Taupe is a very down-to-earth kind of colour. It doesn’t stand out too much, perfect colour to match the winter weather! It glides on ever so smoothly! Only requires one coat as well! Fantastic product! Last, but not least, the MIRABEllA Eye Blender! This brush makes me feel like an artist! I love the weighted handle and the silver finish! The brush bristles are super soft and it definitely does what it was meant for! Blending! As you can see, I absolutely love this month’s ipsy bag! The brush itself was worth getting the ipsy bag! I’m trying to hide how happy I am with this month’s bag! =D

LANEIGE – Multiberry Yogurt Peeling Gel Review

I’ve been using LANEIGE’s Multiberry Yogurt Peeling Gel for a couple of months now. I use it approximately twice a week.

My face [skin] type:  dry and sensitive to many exfoliating products

Product: LANEIGE Multiberry Yogurt Peeling Gel (120ml/4.1 fl. oz.)

Price: $28 (120ml/4.1 fl. oz)

20131205_19284520131205_192851

My thoughts

This peeling gel is hypo-allergenic peeling gel that exfoliates without the feeling of harsh beads that are common in most exfoliators. It possesses anti-oxidadant properties from the berry extracts for even skin tone as well as anti-inflammatory characteristics from Sogurty. Sogurty is a “specialized fermented yogurt to encourage collagen synthesis.

I use this peeling gel about twice a week in my showers. Because of my sensitive skin, a lot of exfoliators leave my face red and blotchy! This peeling gel, however, doesn’t leave my face red and blotchy after my showers! When you first put it on, it actually doesn’t feel like it exfoliates at all. You can’t tell if the residue is the remaining gel or dead skin from your face either.

How I was able to tell that this peeling gel is effective was really because I have really tiny pores. I’ve used multiple nose strips and none of them seem to ever pull any dirt out or gotten rid of my blackheads. I have to manually use scary surgical looking tools to force a handful of blackheads out! After my first use, I immediately noticed a difference on my nose area! It looked like there was less dirt and lighter/less blackheads! After using this peeling gel, it also leaves your face feeling super smooth! I don’t think I’d be exaggerating if I said it definitely also evens out my skin tone! Need I say more?!

Would I recommend this product? YES. YES. YES. I recommend this product for anyone who has super sensitive skin and small pores! It works like a charm in getting rid of dirt/blackheads. I’m still not positive on it’s effectiveness on getting rid of dead skin like regular exfoliators, but I visibly see less dirt/black heads on my face and that is good enough for me!

Amazing TTC Driver

Today I was taking the TTC Streetcar. For those who don’t know, TTC stands for Toronto Transit Commission. The streetcar is similar to cable cars in San Francisco! So we never hear anything nice about the TTC drivers, it’s ALWAYS negative, but today I had a wonderful experience and thought I’d blog about it! Let me describe my journey in as much detail as possible!

Right before the streetcar took off from the station, the driver rang the bell to notify people that were walking towards the streetcar that he was leaving! I know that this gesture seems very minor and small, but a good handful of people made it into the streetcar without having the door slam right before them! I’ve witnessed many times when streetcar drivers just close the door because it was time to take off, but this was one of those rare times where they didn’t!

As the streetcar was taking it’s usual route, the driver says “Good evening everyone.” A single person near the front of the streetcar replied back with a whisper, “Good evening.” The driver wholeheartedly replied back to that single person with a “Good evening to you too. Now let’s try that again. Good evening everybody!” Now this time, I’d say about 50% of the streetcar replied back with enthusiasm, “Good evening!” Some even said “Good evening Mr. TTC Driver!” What a way to cheer people up after a long day of work! It doesn’t just end here!

As we continue going through the stops, he cracks a joke. “What’s black and white and smells like a cow?” The streetcar was silent for a moment until someone finally replies, “A cow.” The streetcar driver: “That’s the right answer!” I personally thought the answer was zebra when he asked…thankfully I didn’t shout out my answer or I would’ve been so embarrassed! He then says, “Common, it wasn’t that bad of a joke was it?!” Everyone laughs!

He cracks a few more jokes that I wished I remembered! I blame my sleepiness! But the jokes were just as awful as the first one, but they would’ve made you smile!

When we were approaching a stop, he instructs us, “Everybody, say ‘Good evening!’ when I cough!” When the next batch of people got onto the streetcar, you hear the driver cough over the intercom, followed by “Good Evening!” A bunch of people giggled at this point! It must’ve came as a great surprise to the people getting onto the streetcar!

Shortly after that, Mr. TTC driver here says, “at the next stop, everybody sing ‘Jingle Bells, Batman Smells’ everybody ready?” Unfortunately at this point, I got off the streetcar! But I did hear someone sing the beginning of that Christmas carol!

I just wanted to share my wonderful experience with a TTC driver that was super friendly and funny! When people were getting off the streetcar, a lot of them said “Good evening Mr. TTC Driver” or “Good evening!” This TTC driver was definitely fantastic! I know it’s one TTC driver out of 999 billion drivers, but one can make a difference! I hope you guys come across amazing public transit drivers as well!
